Social Rant: Our mindset of superiority and fight for justice from within the comfort zone

I think it’s great that everyone is like, “Je suis Charlie,” in support of freedom of speech and that everyone is horrified about the events in France. I am appalled as well. Why are we not equally outraged that 230 girls were kidnapped in Nigeria in 2014 and never found? That terrorist attacks are occurring in Nigeria that are of greater magnitude than those in Paris? That ISIS is still beheading people (even if they aren’t from Western civilization)? That the Ebola virus is still being combatted in Western Africa as many are dying from the virus (even if they aren’t white)? That Planned Parenthood reported 327,653 babies murdered in the year 2014 alone? That human trafficking is raging on?

“Justice” isn’t determined by what things affect us. Our society is okay with “fighting for justice” as long as it doesn’t get uncomfortable. When did “fighting” become something that is supposed to be comfortable? When did it get the tagline “raising awareness” while we sit on our butts and post on Facebook? The world is bigger than America, white people and freedom of speech.
